OSDP Mutli-Drop Configuration

Overview

This article covers how to add and configure multi-drop OSDP readers to a single reader port. Each reader port can support up to two multi-drop OSDP readers, and those readers must be paired as Primary and Secondary readers that share the same door lock, request to exit and door contact.

Addressing the Readers

Each sub-controller can have up to four readers and each reader will need to be uniquely addressed. From a mobile device, use the HID Reader Manager application to assign addresses 0, 1, 2, and 3 to the four OSDP readers. Readers 0 and 2, will be used for reader port 1, and readers 1 and 3 will be used for reader port 2.

Configuring the Software

  1. Navigate to Hardware Manager and select the controller that has the sub-controller(s) that the readers will be connected to. If the sub-controller doesn't exist in the hardware tree yet, then add it before continuing.
  2. Next set the 'Dialect' property of the controller to 'OSDP Multi-Drop' and refresh the tree from the command bar. This will add the additional secondary readers as address 3 and 4 to all sub-controllers that are associated to the controller. Reader 1 and Reader 3 in the software correlate to OSDP addressed reader 0 and 2, and should be connected to reader port 1. Reader 2 and Reader 4 in the software correlate to OSDP addressed reader 1 and 3, and should be connected to reader port 2.
  3. Download hardware for the controller.
