Changing Reader Modes

A Reader Mode defines how a reader behaves when a credential is presented. Follow the steps below to view or change the mode for a reader.

Steps to Change Reader Mode

  1. From the Main Menu, go to Configuration Hardware Manager.

  2. In the hardware tree, select the reader you want to configure.

  3. Click the Device Commands button, or right-click the reader and select Commands.

  4. The Command Window will show the current mode and available reader modes.

  5. Click a mode to apply it.

Reader Modes Explained

  1. Disabled Reader – No access. The reader does not respond to cards or REX (Request to Exit).

  2. Unlocked – The reader is unlocked. Anyone can access without a card or key fob.

  3. Locked (No Access, Allow REX) – Access denied for cards/key fobs, but the door can be unlocked using a REX button.

  4. Correct Facility Code Required – The reader unlocks if the card’s facility code matches the controller’s, even if the card is not in the system.

  5. Card Only – Requires a valid card to unlock.

  6. PIN Only – Requires a valid PIN to unlock.

  7. Card and PIN – Requires both a valid card and PIN to unlock.

  8. Card or PIN – Unlocks with either a valid card or a valid PIN.
